Description

Nominee for "Outstanding Achievement in an Animated Home Video Production" - 1995/1996 ASIFA-Hollywood Annie Awards In 2040 A.D. on the colonial planet of New Eden, the Ministry of Defense is developing a new transforming stealth aircraft - an advanced defense vehicle to counter alien attacks. Isamu Dyson, an extroverted jet fighter maverick fresh from the battlefield, is assigned as a test pilot for Project Super Nova. Competition heats up when he discovers his former childhood friend turned bitter rival, Guld, is a test pilot for a competing fighter project. Old jealousies and long forgotten feelings are rekindled with the arrival of Myung; a mutual ex-girlfriend and music manager for the universe's most popular virtual reality singer, Sharon Apple. But when the enigmatic Sharon is overwhelmed by Myung's confused emotions, an incredible crisis threatens to consume them all. Originally developed as a four-episode original video animation, at the time of its release Macross Plus was the most expensive animated project ever created - a fact which can be seen in every painstakingly rendered frame which skillfully blends traditional 2-dimensional cell animation with then unseen 3D computer generated imagery. Based on the original Superdimensional Fortress Macross, which was edited for U.S. television and released as the popular series Robotech, Macross Plus is set approximately thirty years after the events of the original Macross and just before the events in the Japanese Television series Macross 7. Legendary director of the original Macross television series, Shoji Kawamori, provided the story concept for the project and directed the film with the aid of Cowboy Bebop mastermind Shinichiru Watanabe.
